Serving Christ With Passion While Serving Others With Purpose

Statement of Beliefs

Section 1: The Scriptures

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is the inerrant, infallible record of God’s revelation of Himself to man. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and solely truth for its matter. It reveals the principles by which God judges us; and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried.

(Joshua 8:34; Psalms 19:7-10; 119:11, 89, 140, 138:2; Matthew 5:17-18; John 5:39, 16:25-26, 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Peter 1:19-21)

Section 2: God

There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, worship, and obedience. The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.

(Genesis 1:1-2, 2:7; Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalm 19:1-3; Isaiah 7:14, 53, 61:1-3; John 1:1-18, 11:25-27; Romans 8:9-11, 26-27; Colossians 1:13-22; Revelation 5:9-14, 22:17)

Section 3: Man and the Sanctity of Human Life

Man was created by the special act of God, in His own image, and is the crowning work of His creation. Through the temptation of Satan, man transgressed the command of God, and fell from his original innocence; whereby all his posterity inherit a nature and an environment inclined toward sin, and as soon as they are capable of moral action, become transgressors and are under condemnation. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God. Because man was a special creation, human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.

(Genesis 1:26-30; Psalm 139:13-16; Isaiah 6:5; Jeremiah 17:5; Romans 3:10-18, 23; 1 Corinthians 1:21-31; Colossians 3:9-11)

Section 4: Salvation

Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man by the grace of God, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It includes, in the broad sense, justification, sanctification, and glorification.

(Genesis 3:15; Exodus 3:14-17; Matthew 1:21; John 3:16-18, 15:1-16; Acts 16:30-31; Romans 1:16-18; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20; Ephesians 2:4-7; Hebrews 2:1-3; Revelation 21:1, 22:5)

Section 5: The Church

A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a local body of baptized believers who are associated in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing the two ordinances of Christ, committed to His teachings and seeking to make disciples of all peoples of all nations. The New Testament also speaks of the church as the body of Christ, which includes all of the redeemed of all the ages.

(Matthew 16:15-19; Acts 2:41-42; Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:19-22, 4:11-16; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 2-3)

Section 6: Ordinances

The New Testament teaches two church ordinances: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in the newness of life in Christ Jesus. The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.

(Matthew 3:13-17, 28:19-20; Luke 22:19-20; Acts 2:41-42; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29)

Section 7: The Kingdom

The Kingdom of God includes both His general sovereignty over the universe and His particular kingship over men who willfully acknowledge Him as King. Christians ought to pray and to labor that the Kingdom may come and God’s will be done on earth. The full consummation of the Kingdom awaits the return of Jesus Christ and the end of this age. Until that time, Christians are to minister as servants of the King in every area of life, both church related and secular. In this, we fulfill our calling related to family, friends, occupation, and citizens within earthly kingdoms. As subjects to the heavenly King, we are responsible to live in a redemptive manner among the communities and governments of this world. Our citizenship within the Kingdom of God acts as salt on a decaying society and as light within a darkened world.

(Isaiah 9:6,7; Matthew 3:2, 5:13-15, 13:1-52; Mark 1:14, 15; John 3:3; Acts 1:6-7; 1 Corinthians 15:24-28; Colossians 1:13; Philemon; 1 Peter 2:4-10)

Section 8: Spiritual Gifts

Each Christian has been gifted by the Holy Spirit to serve within the body of Christ in a way that will edify and encourage the other members. Each member should seek to serve within the body in a way that allows God to utilize that gift to the maximum. The ministry gifts are the primary gifts used during this era of God’s working in the church. This church does not emphasize the sign gifts of tongues and interpretation of tongues, nor are we a part of the charismatic movement.

(Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12-14)

Section 9: Evangelism and Missions

It is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ and of every church of the Lord Jesus Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations. The new birth of man’s spirit by God’s Holy Spirit means the birth of love for others. Missionary effort on the part of each believer in Christ is birthed out of obedience to the Scripture and of awareness of God’s magnificent plan to redeem some among all peoples. This is expressly and repeatedly commanded in the teaching of Christ, exemplified by His followers in the New Testament record, and its success accurately prophesied in the Revelation. It is the duty of every child of God to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by personal effort and by all other methods in harmony with the gospel of Christ.

(Genesis 12:1-3; Isaiah 6:1-8; Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 10:1-18; John 14:11, 12, 20:21; Acts 1:8, 13:2,3; Romans 10:13-15; Ephesians 3:1-11; 1 Peter 2:4-10; Revelation 5)

Section 10: Stewardship

God is the source of all blessings, temporal and spiritual; all that we have we owe to Him. Christians have a spiritual debtorship to the whole world, a holy trusteeship in the gospel, and a binding stewardship in their possessions. They are therefore under obligation to serve Him with their time, talents, and material possessions, and should recognize all these as entrusted to them to use for the glory of God and for helping others. According to the Scriptures, Christians should contribute of their means cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally for the advancement of the Redeemer’s cause on earth.

(Genesis 14:20; Malachi 3:8-12; Matthew 6:1-4; Luke 16:1-13; Acts 2:44-47; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 4:1, 2; 2 Corinthians 8-9; Galatians 6:7; Philippians 4:10-19)

Section 11: Heaven, Hell, and Eternal Security

We believe Heaven and Hell are literal, actual places of eternal existence. God gives each human being free will to choose his or her destiny. God fully desires that all people come to Him and share in the fulfilled promise of eternal life in Heaven. For those who genuinely choose Him, God gives eternal life through Jesus Christ.

We believe that human beings are created to exist forever. Each person will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally united with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell and eternal death. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life.

We believe that a person who genuinely accepts salvation through Jesus Christ cannot lose his or her salvation. The true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

(John 3:16, 10:29, 14:17; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10, 14; 1 Peter 1:3-5)

Section 12: Faith, Practices, and Differences in Interpretation

We believe that Scripture is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. CrossView Church leaves room for honest differences of opinion as to biblical interpretation on doctrines, which are not essential to salvation. CrossView Church recognizes that it cannot bind the conscience of individual members in areas where scripture is silent or does not provide clear direction. Each believer is to be led in those areas by the Lord, to whom He or She alone is ultimately responsible.

We believe that God has given every believer unique gifts, talents, and resources. As a matter of faith and practice, it should be the goal of every believer to follow Christ fully, managing these gifts wisely, and joyfully using them in ministry.

(Romans 1:8-12, 17; Romans 3:21-26, 14:19-23; 1 Corinthians 13:1-8, 13, 12:1-11; Galatians 2:20, 5:22-26; Ephesians 1:15-18; Hebrews 10:22-25, 11; James 1:2-6, 2:14-18, 24-26)

Section 13: Final Authority for Matters of Belief or Conduct

The Statement of Beliefs does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source for all we believe. For the purposes of CrossView Church’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, the Senior Pastor or his official designee is CrossView Church’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
